Are invisible braces expensive?

Braces that are fixed to the inside of the mouth (Lingual appliances) needs special brackets, skills and treatment methods, so cost-wise they are more expensive. The other type of 'invisible braces' on the market today which is made of clear plastic (Invisalign®) uses the most advanced technology and is individually made to order in the United States. Therefore, the cost of invisible braces is comparatively higher compared to conventional fixed appliances.

I've heard Orthodontics is very expensive. Do I have to pay all in one go or can I pay by installments?

The fee for orthodontic treatment may involve significant expenses. However, when you consider it as a lifetime investment for a confident smile and healthy bite, you'll probably not consider it as expensive. In particular, the orthodontic fees payable today is less expensive than it was 20 years ago. Discuss with your orthodontist for any payment plans to ease your financial burden. In most cases, payment is usually settled by installments after an initial deposit is made.

Is there a standard fee structure?

Most, if not all, of the orthodontists do have a standardized fee structure based on the complexity and time of the treatment involved. This usually comprised of the initial consultation fee, a down payment fee and monthly adjustment appointment fee. The Hong Kong Society of Orthodontists Limited does not have any suggested fee guide. However, we recommend consulting your orthodontist for the information of the treatment fee.

What is the cost of orthodontic treatment?

What is the difference between the prices for tooth-colored braces and metal ones?

Tooth colored braces are usually made up of ceramic or reinforced plastic materials. These materials are harder to be made into brackets and so therefore they are more expensive than stainless steel brackets.

What treatment and items are usually included in the package fee?

Each orthodontist will have a slightly different assortment of treatment items. Usually these will include the following: initial examination plus records; treatment planning and discussion; orthodontic treatment using removable/fixed/functional appliances; monthly adjustment; retention appliance and regular review after removable of the braces.
